Planning your first ever homemade solar cell project can be a little bit daunting. I really did not have any DIY skills and this led me to believe that I would not even be able to start my homemade solar panel project let alone finish it.
Luckily there are some great guides with step by step instructions available as well as videos which helped get my project underway. At the back of my mind I kept thinking that I could succeed with the project with the right tools and instruction. I ultimately wanted to live a greener existence and save money on my fuel bills as well!
I was amazed at how cost effective building my homemade solar panels was. Also by using a guide which contained step by step instructions, I was able to confidently put my homemade solar panel together and believed that it would work. So much so that it was not long before I had my first panel made.
You have to remember that a homemade solar panel is simply a big box filled with some wiring and solar cells. The actual process of putting my DIY solar panel together was pretty easy when I got down to it. Just follow a step by step guide if you have one.
Once constructed, you will need to find a spot that allows your DIY solar panels to face the sun. An ideal position for locating your solar cells is your roof, particularly your south facing roof. Take care when climbing at height and I would advise wearing a hard hat and harness. Remember that your panels contain glass and should be handled with care throughout the installation process. I often ask a friend to help me with the installation process.
